If you are using JavaScript on your own pages, you should be aware that it is not an exact science and may not work correctly on all browsers.
In addition, about 40% of visitors surf with graphics and java turned off, so these techniques should only be used to enhance pages which work normally using ordinary HTML techniques. And JavaScript sometimes does not work if coded within a table. Which makes the width control on this page for example, more complex. Java (as contrasted with Javascript) tends to work more consistently, and is anyway best used as a CGI script. For more discussion see the Introduction to Java page on this site. |

You will have received an invitation to enter your name in a personalisation window, or just hit Return to continue.
This feature is called an Entrance Tunnel. You may find this sort of thing an invasion of your privacy, or a display of product arrogance. Some website owners go to extremes and will not let you proceed until you have filled in a long and boring form. Then there is a delay while the form is processed. Many surfers will not stand for this nonsense and will surf elsewhere to find a more friendly site. Please do not use this feature unless you really need to know the information. |

These are simple messages, using the JavaScript Alert function. Hit the Hint Buttons |

Contact Waller The above link will produce the correct Email response form, but the address is concealed in JavaScript (which some people may decide not to use), and the address is reversed waller.co.uk@waller so that if the spam seeking robot finds it the address is invalid. |

You should be aware that Netscape and Explorer browsers render this feature in slightly different formats.
And I am still not sure why you would want to do this.... |
| To tell from the users system clock whether it is morning, noon, or night... |
|
You should be aware that the date is not shown if the page is printed, so that the hardcopy version does not have this valuable information.
On the other hand, it is almost impossible to remember to alter the date by hand when you modify a page so this remains a good solution. |
| This actually is not a good script as it only works in the current year. |
