Be warned. Apparently there is a way that a website can disconnect your
Anytime free access line and transfer you to a 090 (in the UK) number at a high cost per minute on your phone bill. BT rang me and asked did I know that I had incurred a bill of UKP 134 for three hours use in the last 24 hours and gave me the number. I thought it was very good of them to take the trouble to do this.
Premium rate call bar
The Controlling Body I contacted them by Email. They were very helpful in telling me the name of the owner of the 090 premium rate number which in this case was just along the coast from here. I rang them and they were extremely helpful. She said that they had in fact tested that particular link and I must have not only opted for the dialler software to be downloaded but also approved its use. I do not recall this and stayed on for three hours, which probably included time surfing other parts of the internet. This time only, if I send her the telephone bill she will refund the money. So all is well that ends well. And it only took some hours and a dozen phonecalls to sort out! |
